This morning on The Today Show they ran a story about how a college baseball player killed himself. His parents believe that his use of "steroids" caused his suicide. (I presume that by "steroids" they meant anabolic steroids.) What confused me was that, given that his mother is a clinical psychologist, the parents saw nothing amiss in their son's mindset of "win at all costs", even from an early age. Such a mindset does not seem very healthy and one would assume that a psychologist would be aware of the dangers of such an extreme and inflexible definition of success.

But it is so much easier to vilify an inanimate object.
